Capture 15 - Pandora
This week Pandora is showing at the workstation. James' hard work has finally come to an end with the creation of his version of pandora's box. He is aiming to get across the feeling of claustrophobia and unease, but as well as the relief of coming out to the normal world. If any of you are free be sure to come and view his installation on the 20th of May to view his creation and to show your support for emerging local sheffield artists. The installation will be open from 11 till 5 for you all to drop in.
Capture 15 - films
With Capture 15 on tonight there is plenty to look forward too. All the films have been tested, the posters printed, and hopefully booze delivered! Tonight the level 6 film and media production students from Sheffield Hallam will be premiering their final films being made on this course. Taking place at the showroom cinema we will all be dressing up to watch everybody else's films. Afterwards there will be drinks at the showroom bar before moving onto Sheffield's premium late bar SOYO to make good use of their VIP room to party into night...
Hopefully these wont be the final films we see from all of our students as they will hopefully go on to promising film careers after their time at Hallam.

Precious Little Gems: Florence Carter and Jodie Hatcher
At the Millennium Gallery Silver and jewellery designers silversmiths and Jodie Hatcher are exhibiting their sheffield themes silver sculptures. These are in the Millennium Gallery from the 13th of April 2015, through to the 13th of October 2015.
It is thanks to the support of sheffield's Assay office that these artists have a chance to get their work into an exhibition. Any work that manages to get into this gallery is something to check out if you are proud of the steel heritage of sheffield.

Introducing Pandora
Pandora's box is an artifact in Greek
mythology, taken from the myth of Pandora's creation in Hesiod's Works and
Days. This box was thought to contain all the evils of the world.
This
installation takes this idea and leads the audience on a journey of different
sights, smells, and sounds to create a wide variety of emotions as if the box
had been opened in their presence.
According to Greek legend, Pandora was the first woman on Earth. Zeus ordered Hephaestus to create her. So he did, using water and earth. The gods endowed her with many gifts: Athena clothed her, Aphrodite gave her beauty, Apollo gave her musical ability, and Hermes gave her speech.
According to Hesiod, when Prometheus stole fire from heaven, Zeus took vengeance by presenting Pandora to Prometheus' brother Epimetheus. Pandora opens a jar containing death and many other evils which were released into the world. She hastened to close the container, but the whole contents had escaped except for one thing that lay at the bottom – Elpis (usually translated "hope", though it could also mean "expectation").
